The image is a 5mp digital image; shot very low light; using a soft focus filter made by Schneider. Just because you shoot digital doesn't mean you don't need filters! More on that to come. This particular filter gives me just the amount of noise I like. What's noise? Let's call it "grain." The limited depth of focus makes this more like a painting than a photograph. The light source is a small portable light call a Lowel Ego. It's the Ego that produced those long linear, square highlights-that's important just for the record-very important. This little gem of a light-and it is-is also perfect for those eBay photographs.
Images: Kitchen Window 1, and Kitchen Window 2
Make some wonderful abstract graphics out of your wife's creativity. This was taken in our kitchen window. The first one was made using the Lowel Ego-placed to camera right-without a fill source (meaning a source that fills in the shadows and softens contrast and pops colors such as a silver or white reflector). The back light comes from the window behind the still life. The second image (on the right) was made adding a little reflector. Is one image correct and the other wrong? Heck, no. It's your choice. Or better yet, let your wife or girlfriend decide ;).
