3. Informational/Promotional

Real Estate sites are a prime example of a promotional site. While they do have a tangible product to sell, most real estate sites feature images of houses they are selling with some information about each house. To actually buy a house you have to visit an office and talk to a real person. The purpose of their website is to provide information about their service or product rather than provide purchasing services.

All that is really required here is a nicely laid out website, perhaps with images of your physical store, service or product. A shopping cart is not required since all purchases would be made through the companys store or office.

All 3 types of E-commerce sites can be successful, but planning ahead and identifying the type of site you will be opening on the Web, and what your requirements will be will save you money, time and a lot of frustration.
