The very purpose and the ultimate goal of SEO is Search Engine Rankings, and higher ones at that. You’re only looking at the dream of ranking at the top for a set of keywords and phrases as soon as consider implementing SEO, right? Whether you do it all yourself or hire an SEO Expert to improve your website's ranking in search engines, you will find this informative page very helpful. Read on…
Here's how many search engines rank web pages:
Of course, it all depends on what the users of the search engines type in the search bars. If the HTML title tag of your web pages/website matches or even comes close to the search query term, your page/site has better chances of ranking high. Also, if the search term appears in the first few lines of the first few paragraphs of your page, your site stands to rank higher than those that don’t meet this criterion (of a sort), in the search results.
Further, the frequency of the search term on a website gives the site more value and hence, better rankings. If the search term appears many a time on your page, you'll have a better chance to show up in the top results. But, don’t overdo it; if you overdo it, it will be considered as a good case of search engine "spamming." The result – A Pink Slip. The search engines may ban your website from being indexed any further. Good search engine rankings are important, but should not be achieved at the cost of information and/or content.
How to rank higher in search engines:
Step 1: Pick a few keywords. You have the business plan, the domain and hosting to take your business online. Now, pick a set of keywords and develop your content and website around this set. This will not only mean relevancy, but also content of good quality, thereby helping you move closer up to the top results and hence increased sales.
While doing this, you will need to do some research that is essentially painstaking, but well worth the pain. Perform a search in the leading search engines and see what websites show up in the top results. Most likely these are your competitors – Study them, carefully. If the competition is tough (high), look at alternatives – Create your niche and look for specific keywords.
Step 2: Content Organization. You need to have your meta tags (, etc.) well taken care of by filling in specific keywords within them. Write keyword rich content on all your web pages. But, remember – Don’t overdo it, don’t stuff your content only with keywords.
That will hit you back, and badly so. Start and end your content with important keywords, at least on your homepage, if not all the pages. Use capitalization – Search engines are case-sensitive. However, try not to list capitalized or normal versions of the keyword in your tags. The search engines may consider that to be spam, as well.
Finally, submit your website to the various search engines and popular web directories, and even article directories if you are into article marketing. Build a good lot of quality one-way links and back links, and see your search engine rankings soar.
